Let the games begin with the Project Implementation
Plan

The project implementation plan phase assumes that the project
manager have discussed with your core team the best way to achieve
the objectives of the project. Also, you would have identified the best
required resources from all departments and agreed on the financial
plan for the project.

Here are the step preceding this step:

The Initial Project planning process
Project Team building
Project Financial planning

In the project plan you set the various Tasks’ that will lead you to
conclude the project:

* Time frame of each task
* Task’s resources
* Task’s success measures
* Task’s budget
* Task dependencies in terms of the task before and task after.

You will need to use a Gantt chart to help you visualize the tasks of
the project. You might want to consider using Microsoft project which
is used by professional project managers.
Gantt Chart

More simple project management can be done with Microsoft Excel
sheets.

There are three main fundamentals for any project plan:

* Expenses or cost
* Time frame or milestones
* Scope in terms of what is to be done

Project plans tend to emerge gradually. Most project that we were
involved in had their project implementation plans modified as new
risks showed up, resources became unavailable and things on the
ground changed.

The project manager should cater for facts in life such as manpower
might require vacations. Don’t expect to have the manpower
resources to match your Gantt chart 100%. This never happens in real
life. You should always allow for variations or some fat in your project
implementation plan.

When a task implementation exceeds its planned time frame or
budget, you need to be aware of its effect on other parallel or
subsequent tasks.  Correction or modifications to the initial project
implementation plan should be implemented immediately. The domino
effect should be studied and corrective measures should be
implemented. Time management skills will prove to be critical for any
project manager.

For example, if there was a sudden holiday that was imposed, your
might want to add more manpower for the delayed tasks to catch up
with the project deadline.

During the project implementation plan, the project manager should
focus more on unfamiliar issues rather than the routine tasks. These
should be executed by a team member. Avoiding the micro
management by the project managers makes him or her focus more
on the real issues that might affect the cost, deadline or scope of the
project.
