skills and characteristics.

I want to be a Leader entails more that the leadership skills and
characteristics explained earlier. As a leader, you have to deal with
different type of leader followers. Understanding the different type of
followers helps you maintain the leadership you want to be.

First, you need to understand that leaders are followers also. A Political
leader follows his party’s leadership, the party leader follows the party
principles or ideology. If the top leader is religious, he follows God.
Corporate CEO follow the chairman and so on.

Becoming a leader means that you have to scarifies you personal life in
most cases. You devotion becomes more dedicated to your followers.

There are five main streams of leader followers that you have to deal
with when you plan to becoming a leader:

1. Passive followers: you assign tasks to them. They do it and then stop.
Some academics refer to them as the “Sheep followers”

2. “Yes Leader” followers: They do the assigned tasks by the leader and
fully depend on him or her for inspiration.

3. Cynical followers: they are bit advanced than the other two
categories above in their ability to criticize and think, but will still be
passive in doing the tasks assigned to them by the leader. Being critical
never means that they oppose the leader.

4. Edge followers: they sit on the fence and follow the leader of the day
by playing politics to survive the day.

5. The Doers followers: These followers think and act upon the
instructions of the leader, but they do things with passion and
confidence and plan for the next step. They are risk takers. They are
noticed as the next generation leaders.

Depending on your leadership skills, environment and situation, the type
of followers mentioned above differs. However, becoming a leader
means that you have to handle all types of people…you are the people
man as a leader.
